Die Heuwels Fantasties were the real stars of the night though, who won all four of the awards (Best Group, Best Neon, Best Video and Best VFX/Animation) they were nominated for, including Best Video for the remix of Hyg Duiwel.

There were plenty of tears throughout as Die Heuwels and other bands paid tribute to the late Herman Pretorius, who actually helped remix the track.

Herman was a founding father of MK and stalwart of the Belville rock scene and sadly died of Cancer at the young age of 29 last year, after hosting Studio 1 for some time.

“Herman was working on a side project called Mr X and asked us if he could do a remix of Hyg Duiwel. He played us one of the final remixes and we were so impressed. Unfortunately he died before he could finish it,” Pierre from Die Heuwels said.

Johnny de Ridder then finished the remix and the track was released as part of Vrede Fest Elektro, a compilation, with all proceeds going to the Vrede Foundation – an NGO started by Pretorius and his brother to help children suffering with cancer who have no medical aid.
